GRAVEL CYCLING TOUR TORINO – NICE ACROSS THE ITALIAN AND FRENCH ALPS

Ciao and bonjour! Are you a road cyclist looking to challenge yourself on a multi-stage ride through the Italian and French Alps? Then our group cycling tour Torino – Nice Road is just what you’re looking for! This is the road version of the iconic gravel tour of the same name. We offer both a road and a gravel option during the same period and have prepared seven fantastic stages for both groups. Each group follows its own route, with some sections overlapping, and stays in the same hotels, except on stages four and five. If you choose the road option, you’ll ride on paved roads, with the exception of the second half of Colle delle Finestre, which is unpaved. You’ll make your own way to Turin before the start and travel back from Nice after the finish. You can travel by car, train or plane. If you wish, we can help you plan your logistics and arrange transport for your bike.

We start in Turin, the elegant capital of Italy’s Piedmont region, and finish in vibrant, Mediterranean Nice on the French Côte d’Azur. We ride through areas you may know from the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. This is a multi-stage tour for climbers. On the road route, we tackle some of the most famous Grand Cols, including Colle delle Finestre, Col d’Izoard, Col Agnel, Colle di Sampeyre, Colle della Fauniera, Colle di Lombarda and Col de Turini. On several stages, you can choose between a challenging black route and a less demanding red route, allowing cyclists of different levels to take part in the tour. If you choose the black route on every stage, you’ll cover approximately 700 kilometres and climb 19,000 metres in total. The red routes add up to around 600 kilometres and 15,500 metres of elevation gain.

STAGES 1 & 2: HIDDEN BEAUTY AND THE PHENOMENAL FINESTRE

Grande Partenza! We set off from the elegant city of Turin. Our first challenge is the little-known but phenomenal climb to Lago di Malciaussia (1,805 metres). We ride through a stunning high-mountain landscape to an impressive reservoir. For those in the know, this climb is like a mini version of Colle del Nivolet! Our second climb is Colle del Lys (1,311 metres). We spend the night in charming Susa. The second stage begins with the iconic Colle delle Finestre (2,176 metres), representing the Torino – Nice route: half paved, half gravel and a phenomenal challenge. The Giro witnessed one of its greatest comeback stories here. In 2018, Simon Yates lost his pink jersey on the Finestre. In 2025, he claimed the maglia rosa here and went on to win the Giro against the odds. We continue via Sestriere (2,035 metres) and Col de Montgenèvre (1,850 metres) to Briançon.

‘De Colle delle Finestre represents Torino – Nice; half paved, half gravel and a phenomenal challenge.’

STAGES 3 & 4: GIANTS OF THE COTTIAN ALPS: IZOARD, AGNEL AND FAUNIERA

In Briançon, we start with the climb to Col d’Izoard (2,360 metres). The black route takes a short detour during the climb to the remote mountain village of Les Fonts (2,040 metres). After reaching the village, we turn around and continue towards the Izoard, passing spectacular scree slopes along the way. This pass has featured regularly in the Tour de France and several times in the Giro d’Italia. Our second pass of the day is the magnificent Col Agnel (2,744 metres), the third-highest paved pass in the Alps. We descend into Italy to Sampeyre, where stage four begins with Colle di Sampeyre (2,283 metres). After a spectacular, winding descent, we tackle the final climb of the day. Via Colle d’Esischie, we ride to Colle delle Fauniera (2,481 metres), where Pantani awaits us. Cycling doesn’t get much better than this remote corner of Italy in the Cottian Alps!

STAGES 5, 6 & 7: TOWARDS THE MEDITERRANEAN

From stage five onwards, we ride through the Maritime Alps. We start with the tough border pass Colle di Lombarda (2,347 metres). Towards the end of the climb, we pass Santuario di Sant’Anna di Vinadio. Via Isola 2000 and Isola, we ride to Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée, where the black route tackles Col de la Couillole (1,678 metres). Stage six begins with a steady climb to Col de Saint-Martin (1,502 metres). We then ride to the spectacular Col de Turini (1,604 metres), where we spend the night. The black route also takes in the scenic mountain loop of Circuit de l’Authion (2,016 metres). On stage seven, the vegetation becomes more Mediterranean. This is the region where Paris – Nice, the Race to the Sun, concludes. We climb Col de Braus (1,002 metres) and Col de la Madone (925 metres) before finishing in Nice on the Promenade des Anglais. Arrivée!
