GROUP CYCLING TOUR IN THE VOSGES WITH START AND FINISH IN SAINTE-MARIE-AUX-MINES

Salut! Can’t wait to hit the mountains in the spring and do you want to conquer the legendary Vosges cols and ballons made famous by the Tour de France? Then join our group cycling tour in the Vosges and experience an unforgettable stage tour for road cyclists, starting and finishing in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, in Alsace! When the high mountain passes in the Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees are still closed, the French mid-mountain range of the Vosges is the perfect alternative. You’ll cycle through forests and vineyards, past picturesque villages, and climb iconic passes such as Col du Grand Ballon, Le Petit Ballon, La Super Planche des Belles Filles, Col du Platzerwasel and Col du Ballon d’Alsace.

Over five stages, including a short warm-up stage, you can almost daily choose between a black route for a serious challenge, or a red route for a slightly lighter variant. The black routes add up to 450 kilometre and 9,500 metres of altitude gain, while the red routes cover 380 kilometre and 7,450 metres of altitude gain. This makes a Travers les Vosges both the ideal preparation for tougher cycling adventures later and a beautiful, accessible stage tour in its own right.

STAGE 1 & 2: GRAND COLS AND CHARMING VOSGES-VILLAGES

We welcome you to the former mining village of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines for the first stage of a Travers les Vosges. We start gently with a short warm-up loop through Alsace-Lorraine, including three smaller cols. It’s the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit and ready for the rest of the tour. Stage two takes us through picturesque vineyards and some of the most beautiful villages in Europe, such as Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr. It’s well worth hopping your bike for a moment to soak up the atmosphere! Then the riding gets more serious with the climb of the Collet du Linge, once a WWI frontline where old trenches can still be seen. After descending towards Munster, we tackle the Col du Petit Ballon. We descend on the other side and finish back in Munster, a village not famous for a peace treaty, but for its rather pungent cheese.

‘In a Travers les Vosges you’ll enjoy the beauty of the Vosges and experience a full stage tour through the mountains in spring’.

STAGE 3 & 4: GREAT VOSGES-LAKES AND PLAN OF THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS

In stage three, we start with the challenging Col du Platzerwasel. After reaching the summit, we ride across a plateau to Le Markstein, where we descend. The next climb is the winding road of Col du Bramont. In this stage, we pass three large Vosges lakes: Lac de Kruth, Lac de Longemer and Lac de Gérardmer. After Gérardmer, we ride through La Bresse, known for the Granfondo Vosges, and finish in Le Thillot. Stage four takes us through Ronchamp, famous for the Gran Fondo Les Trois Ballons. We tackle some of the most iconic Vosges climbs in recent Tour history, including La (Super) Planche des Belles Filles. This short, steep climb ends with a tough gravel section. Its name is beautiful but recalls a grim history. We close this stage with the Ballon d’Alsace, which in 1905 became the first-ever climb in the Tour de France. René Pottier reaching the summit first.

STAGE 5: COL DU GRAND BALLON AND ROUTE DES CRÊTES

From Moosch, we start stage five with the climb to the summit of our tour: Col du Grand Ballon (1,341 metres)! This famous Tour de France climb is also the highest point in the Vosges. The Grand Ballon can be climbed from many directions, but of course we take the iconic side with cobbled hairpins, starting in Willer-sur-Thur. From the top of the Grand Ballon, we follow the Route des Crêtes along the high Vosges ridge. This beautiful route was originally built by the French during WWI to supply their troops. This means we cycle for kilometres across a stunning plateau, picking up several cols along the way without excessive climbing. Among others, we pass Col de la Schlucht and Col du Bonhomme. We follow the Route des Crêtes until it ends at our finish in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. Arrivée!

¡Hola! Join our phenomenal gravel group cycling tour from Girona, the Spanish cycling city par excellence! In Gravel Track Girona we discover the most beautiful gravel paths, singletracks, and mountain roads of Catalonia. This region is known for the Traka 560, an extreme gravel event that is rapidly gaining popularity. The routes in our gravel group cycling tour are inspired by those of the Traka. We start and finish in the beautiful, historic city of Girona, easily accessible by train and plane. This lively Catalan city is now globally popular among both pros and amateurs. In the first part of the stage ride, we climb stunning cols such as Coll de Santigosa and Coll de Jou, exploring the heights of the Catalan Pyrenees near the French border. We then head towards the rugged Costa Brava coastline, following it southward. In the final part of the ride, we cycle back inland to Girona.

In Gravel Track Girona, you can choose either black or easier red routes on each stage. Choosing the black routes on all stages totals 580 kilometres with nearly 10,000 metres of altitude gain. The red routes cover 470 kilometres and approximately 7,000 metres of altitude gain. This tour offers the perfect mix of athletic challenge, adventure and group experience. You ride, eat, sleep, and enjoy, we take care of the rest! Claim your spot and experience this Spanish gravel adventure with other passionate gravel cyclists!

STAGE 1: GIRONA AND THE CATALAANSE PYRENEES

Girona welcomes us with medieval charm and a vibrant cycling culture. It is the perfect base for our Spanish gravel cycling adventure. Consider arriving a day early to soak up the atmosphere in the narrow streets and colourful squares of this cycling city. From here, we start our first stage heading west, following the Riu Ter river as it later bends northwards. You’ll mostly ride on smooth gravel paths through a Wooded area along a gradually ascending route. Halfway the stage, we approach the Catalan Pyrenees where the real climbing begins. We tackle the challenging Coll de Santigosa and Coll de Jou back-to-back. These are iconic climbs for gravel riders, made famous by The Traka. After descending Coll de Jou, we finish in the area around Ribes de Freser.

‘In Gravel Track Girona, you’re constantly treated to ever-changing landscapes: dense forests, charming villages, the rugged coast and high cols.’

STAGE 2 & 3: MORE CATALAN PYRENEES AND ALTA GARROTXA

In stage two, we discover more of the untouched beauty of the Catalan Pyrenees: rugged mountains, stunning nature and idyllic villages. From the start, we climb to over 2,000 metres! We ride through a magnificent high-mountain landscape near the French border, enjoying breathtaking views. After three challenging climbs, we finish in Castellfollit de la Roca, spectacularly perched on a 50-metre-high basalt cliff. Stage three begins with a climb through the Alta Garrotxa natural area, shaped by volcanic activity. This rugged region is full of dense forests, deep valleys, and cliffs. We climb to nearly 1,000 metres before descending for kilometres. Along the way, we pass the Darnius-Boadella Reservoir, a massive dammed lake. In the second part of the stage, we ride through farmland heading east, finishing in the rural village of Garriguella.

STAGE 4 & 5: COSTA BRAVA, CAP DE CREUS, LES GAVARRES AND AGAIN GIRONA

In stage four, we ride eastwards from Garriguella towards the Costa Brava, the rugged Catalan coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. In the village of Llançà, we reach the coast, which we then follow south. We ride across Cap de Creus, a stunning peninsula with steep cliffs and striking rock formations. This is the easternmost point of Spain. From there, we wind our way to Roses and continue along the coast by the Gulf of Roses towards Torroella de Montgrí, where we finish. Stage five is the final stage of Gravel Track Girona. Once again, we briefly follow the Riu Ter river towards the coast before turning west into the inland. We pass through the mountainous natural area of Les Gavarres, riding between cork oaks and pine trees. After a few last climbs, we enter the countryside around Girona. Following the Riu Ter, we ride back into the city.

STAGE 1 & 2: THE LEGENDARY COL DE LA LOZE AND THE BEAUTIFUL COL DE L’ARPETTAZ

We start our cycling tour through the French and Italian Alps in Moûtiers. In the first stage, with start and finish in this charming mountain town, we climb the legendary Col de la Loze. The Loze was paved in 2019 and included in the Tour de France route for the first time in 2020. It quickly became an icon of the cycling world, with the most legendary moment being Pogačar’s rare collapse during Stage 17 of the Tour in 2023. The opening stage is optional; if you prefer a six-stage tour, you can start with Stage Two. In stage two we ride from Moûtiers to Beaufort. Along the way, we tackle the breathtaking Col de l’Arpettaz, a highlight for true cycling enthusiasts, and the famous Col des Saisies, which has featured in the Tour de France 15 times. We finish in the lively mountain village of Beaufort.

‘Climb some of the most iconic Grand Cols of the French and Italian Alps, including the Colle delle Finestre, Col de la Loze, and Col de l’Iseran.’

STAGE 3, 4 & 5: TIGNES, COL DE l’ISERAN EN COLLE DELLE FINESTRE

In the third stage, we ride from Beaufort to Tignes, the well-known ski and cycling village at 2,105 metres. Along the way, we climb the phenomenal Cormet de Roselend, another famous Tour de France col. In stage four, we ride from Tignes to the Col de l’Iseran, the highest col in France at 2,770 metres, before descending to Lanslebourg. From there, we tackle the climb to the fantastic Col du Mont-Cenis. On the descent, we cross the Italian border and finish in Susa. Stage five begins in Susa, immediately challenging us with the highlight of our cycling tour: Colle delle Finestre! In the 2018 Giro d’Italia, Froome left eveybody behind on this monster climb, including its unpaved finale, and took the pink jersey from Yates. He won the Giro ahead of Dumoulin. In 2025, Yates took revenge on the Finestre, seizing the pink jersey from Del Toro and winning the Giro. Finally, we ride via Sestriere to Bardonecchia, a well-known cycling village in the Susa Valley.

across the alps south

STAGE 6 & 7: COL DU GALIBIER AND COL DE LA MADELEINE

We start the sixth stage in Bardonecchia, Italy. On the climb of Col de l’Échelle, we cross the French border and then descend to Briançon. From here, we climb  to Col du Galibier via Col du Lautaret. Col du Galibier is one of the most iconic Grand Cols of the French Alps The col has been part of the Tour de France almost 60 times and the Giro d’Italia once. In 2025, Col du Lautaret even appeared in the route of La Vuelta a España! After the phenomenal descent from the Galibier and Col du Télégraphe, we finish near Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. The seventh and final stage starts with the famous spaghetti bends of Les Lacets de Montvernier. We continue climbing to Col du Chaussey and conclude our adventure with the spectacular Col de la Madeleine. After the descent, we finish back in Moûtiers.

GROUP CYCLING TOUR COAST TO COAST PYRENEES FROM BIARRITZ TO ARGELÈS-SUR-MER

Bonjour! On the group cycling tour Coast to Coast Pyrenees, we ride from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, straight through the rugged French Pyrenees! This iconic stage tour is a must-do adventure for every passionate mountain cyclist. We start in the vibrant town of Biarritz and finish in Argelès-sur-Mer, a lively coastal spot near Perpignan. In the C2CP you’ll ride seven stages (including a short warm-up ride), experience all the beauty the Pyrenees have to offer, and draw a bold line from coast to coast on your Strava heatmap!

In most stages you can choose between a tougher black route and a slightly easier red route. The black routes cover over 800 kilometres with nearly 18,500 metres of altitude gain. By opting for the red routes, you’ll ride about 730 kilometres and conquer 14,000 metres of altitude gain. Along the way, we cross the challenging French Basque Country, ride through the Gorge de la Pierre Lys, and of course tackle many famous climbs from the Tour de France, including: Marie-Blanque, Aubisque, Spandelles, Tourmalet, Hourquette d’Ancizan, Peyresourde, Menté and Port de Pailhères.

Travel to Biarritz and back from Argelès-sur-Mer is on your own arrangement. Biarritz is easily accessible by train or plane, and from Perpignan (near the finish) you can travel back conveniently. To make your journey easier, we can also arrange bike transport from and back to a location in the Netherlands.

Our join-in tours are perfect for individuals and small groups who want to conquer the legendary Grand Cols alongside other passionate mountain cyclists. Book your spot and join a fully organized stage ride from hotel to hotel, over a set period, with support from our team. You ride, eat, sleep, and enjoy, we take care of the rest. The group consists of 8 to 20 participants who share your passion of cycling. Experience an unforgettable adventure and make cycling friends for life!

Our General Terms and Conditions apply to this cycling tour. The listed prices include VAT.

STAGE 1 & 2: PAYS BASQUE – BASQUE COUNTRY

Salut mes amis! We start our adventure in the beautiful French coastal city of Biarritz, located on the Bay of Biscay in the French Basque Country (Basque: Iparralde, or North Side). Biarritz was a popular seaside resort for European nobility from the 19th century. This is reflected in the beautiful buildings in the city. The Municipal Casino in Art Deco style, dating from 1929, is well-known. Consider coming a day earlier to enjoy the city beach and the nice bars and restaurants in the attractive historic center. We start in the afternoon with a short stage through the Biarritz area to kick off your legs. In stage 2 we cycle through the cycling-mad Basque Country. Although we do not encounter any high cols, this stage is not flat anywhere. Divide your energy well because we will encounter a number of very steep walls!

‘In the Coast to Coast Pyrenees you draw a big line from coast to coast on your Strava heathmap!’

STAGE 3 & 4: GRAND COLS OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE

From stage 2 we enter the Pyrenees. The first known climb is the Col de Marie-Blanque (1,037 metres). From Escot we climb on an increasingly steep road through a dense forest. After the descent we ride to Laruns where Col d’Aubisque (1,709 metres) starts. On the climb, we pass the beautiful 19th-century spa town of Eaux-Bonnes. The often misty summit with the large metal bicycles is inhabited by sheep. In stage 3 we reach the roof of C2CP; Col du Tourmalet (2,115 metres). This tough but steady climb is the most climbed col in the Tour de France. After the descent follows perhaps the most beautiful part of the entire route; the climb to Hourquette d’Ancizan (1,567 metres), through a rural landscape with lots of stray cattle. We conclude this stage with another famous climb; Col de Peyresourde (1,568 metres).

STAGE 5, 6 & 7: PYRENEES, THE GREEN MOUNTAINS

In stages 4 and 5, the cols continue to follow each other in rapid succession. We ride through a fantastic green landscape, with thousands of trees, and pass sleepy villages. Along the way, we climb Col de Menté (1,344 metres), Portet d’Aspet (1,069 metres), with the monument for the unfortunate Fabio Casatelli, Col de la Core (1,394 metres), Col de Port (1,257 metres) and the majestic Port de Pailhères (1,998 metres), from the authentic spa town of Ax-les-Thermes. After the fantastic descent of this col, we head for Quillan, where the final stage starts. From there, we cycle through the beautiful Gorge de la Pierre Lys. After a final serious col and a few relatively easy kilometres, we dive into the Mediterranean Sea in Argelès-Sur-Mer!

STAGE 1 & 2: BRIXEN AND SELLA RONDA

We start Stage one in or near Brixen (Italian: Bressanone) in the beautiful Eisacktal. This charming town, known for its 12th-century cathedral, sits at the confluence of the Eisack and Riens rivers. From Brixen, we climb to Lüsen, where the first Grand Col of the stage begins: the Passo delle Erbe (Würzjoch). This HC-climb mainly follows a narrow road through a fresh forest. After the descent, we pass La Villa, the starting point of the famous Maratona dles Dolomites, and reach Corvara, located in the iconic Sella Ronda. From here we climb the Passo di Campolongo, after which we descend back to Corvara. Stage two focuses on the other Sella Ronda cols: Passo di Gardena, Passo di Pordoi, and Passo di Sella. We finish with the climb to Passo di Falzarego and a descent to the luxurious winter sports and cycling town of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

‘Perfectly maintained roads run through the beautiful, rugged landscape of the Dolomites.’

STAGE 3 & 4: BEAUTIFUL, STEEP CLIMBS

Stage three starts in Cortina d’Ampezzo and takes us northeast over the Tre Croci. We then quickly gain altitude on the short but ultra-steep climb to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, finishing at the beautifully situated Rifugio Auronzo. The views along the way and from the summit are breathtaking! Legendary Giro champions such as Gimondi, Merckx, and Nibali claimed historic victories here. Then we tackle the impressive Passo di Giau, with a steep finale through stunning alpine scenery and views of the majestic Monte Cristallo rock formation. The summit lies just below the distinctive peak of Monte Nuvolau. We conclude this stage in Caprile, the start of Stage four. In this stage the challenging Passo di San Pellegrino awaits after a short approach. Via Passo di Valles, we cycle westwards, mainly downhill, towards Auer (Italian: Ora).

STAGE 5 & 6: DIE WEINSTRASSE EN MAGNIFICENT MERANO

In Stage five, we ride westwards. The rugged Dolomites lie behind us, but don’t worry: a few more stunning Grand Cols still await! We cycle through the wine region of Südtirol, via the winding Mendelpass (Italian: Passo di Mendola) and Gampenpass, to the romantic mountain town of Merano, once the holiday retreat of Empress Sissi. In the evening, enjoy the charming old town and the promenades along the mountain river Passer. The final stage heads north along the river on a smoothly flowing gravel path. At Sankt Leonhard in Passeier, we turn towards the Jaufenpass (Italian: Passo di Monte Giovo). After the descent towards Sterzing, the Passo di Pennes awaits for the hardcore riders. Over gentle roads, we return to the Brixen area, where we celebrate the conclusion of the Giro delle Dolomiti. Arrivo!

EXPLANATION EXAMPLE GROUP PACKAGE

Inspiration for your group package

An example tour is a fully designed stage tour. We have selected the most beautiful cols, designed well-balanced routes and chosen cyclist-friendly hotels. This example group package gives you an idea of what a stage tour in this cycling region could look like. You can book this tour for your cycling group (from 8 people) or use it as inspiration for your own custom group package.

Let us know your preferences, and we can adapt this example tour (and the price) for your group. Consider options such as adding or removing a stage or col, choosing different routes or overnight stops, including a rest day, or selecting more luxurious hotels. If you wish to travel with a group of fewer than 8 people, we will provide a custom price.

Our Terms and Conditions apply to this tour. The listed prices are based on the indicated best periods, include our full-service approach and VAT.

STAGE 1: THE LAVA LANDSCHAP OF MONTE ETNA

Our MTB Giro di Sicilia starts in Biancavilla, an authentic Sicilian town located at the southern foot of Monte Etna, Europe’s highest and most active volcano. The road immediately ascends! Through the Ciancio Forest, we reach the route of the Pista Altomontana, a stunning gravel loop around the flanks of Etna. We ascend through a forested area with black lava fields to Monte Fornello (1,934 metres). Just before the summit, we pass through Pietra Cannone, which means cannon stone. This name refers to a remarkable natural phenomenon: when flowing lava from a volcanic eruption encases a tree trunk, a hollow stone is formed in the shape of a cannon barrel. We cycle to the northern side of Etna and descend on a paved road towards Linguaglossa.

‘The absolute highlight of the Giro di Sicilia is Mount Etna, but Sicily has so much more to offer for mountain bikers.’

STAGES 2 & 3: PICTURESQUE VILLAGES AND THE MONTI PELORITANI

In Stage Two, we ride alternately over gravel and paved roads towards Milazzo on the Tyrrhenian north coast. Shortly after the start, we enter the Monti Peloritani, a rugged mid‑mountain range with peaks exceeding 1,300 metres. Along the way, we pass several picturesque Sicilian villages, such as Francavilla and Novara. The highest point of this stage is Monte Tre Finaite (1,229 metres). In Stage Three, we cross the Monti Peloritani towards the Ionian east coast. We climb unpaved trails through a beautiful MTB area to Pizzo Mualìo (1,026 metres), following the flow of the Torrente Mela. In the finale of this stage, the black route offers an optional climb to Savoca, a beautiful village featured in The Godfather films, as well as Forza d’Agrò, where the stage finishes.

STAGES 4 & 5: TAORMINA, MOUNT ETNA AND ACI CASTELLO

We continue our tour through the Monti Peloritani. Via Forza d’Agrò, we ride into a stunning, rugged area with narrow, winding trails; an absolute MTB paradise! The route is continuously uphill or downhill, featuring four major climbs; on the black route, these add up to nearly 2,400 metres of elevation gain. We finish in the historic town of Taormina, the Pearl of the Ionian Sea. This is a beautiful, historic coastal town with the Greek‑Roman theatre as its highlight. In the final stage, we head back towards Monte Etna. We ascend the volcano to approximately 1,500 metres before descending southeast. We finish on the Ionian coast in the picturesque seaside town of Aci Castello, where we can conclude our adventure with a refreshing swim in the sea.

GROUP CYCLING TOUR IN TUSCANY WITH START AND FINISH IN CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI

Ciao ragazzi! Are you looking for a gravel cycling tour in Tuscany where you can ride the white gravel roads of the Strade Bianche and L’Eroica while enjoying Italy’s rich (cycling) culture? Then Gravel Bianche Toscana is made for you! This stage tour, starting and finishing in Castellina in Chianti, takes you straight into Europe’s gravel Nirvana: Tuscany! Over five stages we ride through the Chianti region and over the roads of what might be the most beautiful race on the cycling calendar: de Strade Bianche. Even the Giro d’Italia has (re)discovered Tuscany’s iconic strade bianche (white gravel roads).

You’ll travel independently to Castellina in Chianti, a charming village in the famous wine region, where our cycling adventure begins. Climbers will also get their fix on this gravel cycling tour in Tuscany: we tackle countless pogi (hills), including the iconic Monte Santa Marie, Passo del Lume Spento, Monte San Michele, San Martino in Grania and Le Tolfe. We conquer nearly 2,000 metres of elevation gain per day on average! Along the way we pass stunning towns and villages such as Siena, Montalcino, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, San Quirico d’Orcia, Radda in Chianti and Gaiole in Chianti, where we also take time to enjoy the local culture and Italian cuisine.

Each stage offers you a choice between a challenging black route or an easier red route, making this tour suitable for cyclists of different levels. Choosing the black routes on every stage totals 470 kilometres with 9,275 metres of altitude gain, while the red routes cover 360 kilometres with 7,000 metres of altitude gain. We recommend riding a gravel bike for this tour to get the best experience.

STAGE 1 & 2: CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI, CHIANTI REGION AND SIENA

Grande Partenza! We kick off our Tuscan gravel adventure in the charming town of Castellina in Chianti, located in the heart of the famous Chianti region between Florence and Siena. This area is world famous for its Chianti Classico wines, rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. On the first stage, you’ll ride along quiet roads weaving through vineyards, cypress trees and olive groves. Along the way, we pass iconic Tuscan villages such as San Gimignano and Monteriggioni, finishing the stage in the stunning city of Siena. The second stage takes us south through, following the routes of the iconic Strade Bianche and L’Eroica. This is a true paradise for lovers of classic cycling romance. In the final part, we leave the Strade Bianche course and continue along the Eroica route. After climbing the Passo del Lume Spento, we reach the beautiful town of Montalcino.

‘Explore the Strade Bianche where Van Vleuten, Kopecky, Cancellara, Van Aert, Van der Poel, Pidcock, and Pogačar made cycling history.’

STAGE 3 & 4: RIDE THE ROUTES OF THE EROICA AND STRADE BIANCHE

Stage three mostly follows the iconic gravel roads of the famous L’Eroica, a ride full of cycling nostalgia. This route continues further south than the Strade Bianche, through a tranquil, unspoilt part of Tuscany. All day we wind along rolling white roads, between cypress trees and old farmhouses, with a new climb or descent around every corner. Along the way, we pass the picturesque village of San Quirico d’Orcia, finishing in Buonconvento. In 2025, Tadej Pogačar made cycling history with an extraordinary 80-kilometre solo victory at the Strade Bianche. In stage four, we follow in his tracks, tracing the course of that legendary finale with iconic gravel sections such as Monte Sante Marie and Le Tolfe, names and images familiar from television. The stage finishes at the iconic Piazza del Campo in the heart of Siena.

STAGE 5: GAIOLE, RADDA AND CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI

In the final stage, we ride an iconic section of the l’Eroica route, but in reverse. From Siena, we head northeast towards Gaiole in Chianti, the birthplace of the famous retro cycling event l’Eroica. Every first weekend of October, Gaiole transforms into a pilgrimage site for vintage cycling enthusiasts from all over the world, creating an unforgettable cycling atmosphere. Thousands of riders in woollen jerseys, on steel racing bikes, set off on tours across the strade bianche. Cafés, wine bars and restaurants proudly display cycling photos and memorabilia on their walls. Further north lies the idyllic Radda in Chianti, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the Chianti region and surrounding vineyards. After one last loop through Tuscany’s rolling roads, we finish where our adventure began: the charming town of Castellina in Chianti. Arrivo!

Which Grand Cols are on your wishlist for your next cycling adventure? EXAMPLES OF OUR CUSTOM CYCLING TOURS

GIRO DELLE DOLOMITI CUSTOM EDITION – JULY 2025

In July 2025, we once again organized the ‘Tour de Trias’, a custom cycling tour for 8 riders and 2 guides. In 2024, we rode with this group from Vaals (NL) to the Stelvio. This time they chose the Dolomites. Based on their preferences, we created a custom edition of our Giro delle Dolomiti, starting and finishing in the Italian town of Brixen. Compared to our standard group arrangement, this custom edition covered a slightly smaller area, allowing us to offer both a challenging black route and a lighter red route each stage. This way, riders of different levels could enjoy the journey together.

Over six spectacular stages, we climbed legendary Grand Cols, such as the Erbe, Gardena, Sella, Pordoi (Sella Ronda), Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Giau, and Fedaia. We twice spent two consecutive nights in the same hotel (Corvara and Moena), giving riders the option of taking a rest day (of course, none of them made use of this option). This way they also didn’t have to pack and unpack their luggage every day. After many kilometers of struggle and enjoyment, we reached our final destination: Brixen, arrivo!

Cycling in the Dolomites with Grand Cols Cycling Tours

My trip in June/July 2025 was already my third cycling holiday (with the same group of cycling friends) organized by Rinie Sminia, and once again: hats off for the flawless organization! Well-planned coffee stops and lunches along the route (complete with fresh croissants), and excellent hotels in the evenings to recharge.

At our request, this year’s trip took us to the Dolomites, with a focus on the Sella Massif. We also asked to stay 2 x 2 nights in the same hotel, which turned out to be an excellent setup. It gave our group extra flexibility and some welcome downtime since we didn’t have to pack and unpack every day. As for the beauty of the Dolomites; it speaks for itself. Everyone who has cycled there wants to return. The Sella Ronda loop is very popular among cyclists, and for good reason.

What sets Grand Cols Cycling Tours apart from other tour operators is that you can book a truly à la carte cycling trip, tailored exactly to your wishes. All you need to bring is your group of cycling friends, Grand Cols takes care of the rest. Well before departure, you’ll receive a detailed route book, outlining everything you can expect: GPX files for each stage (always offering a challenging and a lighter route), links to hotels, direct links to the climbs of the day, and a description of every stage.

Do you want a carefree cycling holiday, where you can fully focus on the ride, a holiday with your own cycling crew, and to a destination of your choice? Then Grand Cols Cycling Tours is the way to go!

GIRO DI SICILIA MTB – SEPTEMBER 2024

A group of nine Belgian cycling friends challenged us to organise a custom cycling tour; a ‘gourmet’ MTB-tour in Sicily. With the help of our local contacts, we put together a six-stage route in the northeast of the island. We transported the participants’ mountain bikes to Sicila, after all, nothing beats riding your own bike! Over the course of the tour, we covered 300 kilometres with more than 6,500 metres altitude gain.

Along the way, we took plenty of time to discover Sicilian cuisine and stayed in luxurious hotels. We rode through the remarkable Monte Etna region, crossed the Monti Peloritani, travelled from the Tyrrhenian north coast to the east coast and finished in the beautiful historic harbour town of Taormina. Along the route, we visited authentic locations such as Novara di Sicilia and the ‘Godfather’ villages of Forza d’Agrò and Savoca. It was a stunnin and highly enjoyable adventure!

Challenging MTB holiday in Sicily

In September 2024, I experienced a fantastic 6-day mountain bike holiday in Sicily, organized by Grand Cols Cycling Tours. From start to finish, it was an amazing experience, thanks in large part to the expertise and dedication of Rinie Sminia. The routes were carefully selected, offering the perfect mix of challenging trails and breathtaking views. Rinie was not only an excellent guide but also a great motivator. His passion for mountain biking and Sicily was contagious, making every ride an adventure in itself.

The accommodations were comfortable and well-located, allowing us to fully experience the local culture and cuisine. Every evening, we gathered to share stories and tips for the next day, which strengthened the group dynamic. In short, this holiday was not only a sporting challenge but also an unforgettable experience filled with friendship and wonderful memories. I can wholeheartedly recommend Grand Cols Cycling Tours to anyone seeking an active and inspiring cycling holiday!

TOUR D’EUROPE – JUNE 2024

From Vaals (The Netherlands) to the Stelvio: the ultimate cycling adventure! In June 2024, a group of 11 friends (9 cyclists and 2 tour leaders) took on this challenge with us. Over 8 stages, we covered 1,200 kilometres, with more than 19,000 metres of altitude gain and cycled through 9 different countries (The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy). Along the way, we conquered the highest cols in our path. They called this tour Tour de Trias.

Starting at Vaalsbroek Castle, we kicked off with our very own Vaalserberg. We rode through stunning regions and picturesque villages. The climbs grew higher and more impressive as the journey progressed, with standout highlights including Champ du Feu, Col du Grand Ballon, Bielerhöhe and Passo dello Stelvio! This custom tour proved to be a true adventure, pushing participants to their limits. The sense of achievement upon reaching the Cima Coppi was enormous!

An unforgettable adventure with Grand Cols Cycling Tours

In the summer of 2024, I joined the Tour de TRIAS with Grand Cols Cycling Tours, cycling from the Netherlands to the iconic summit of the Stelvio. What an unforgettable adventure! The entire trip was flawlessly organised, and it was clear that great care had gone into both the route planning and on-the-road support. The tour leaders were professional and always available when needed. The routes were perfectly mapped out, featuring challenging stages through stunning landscapes. The hotels were strategically located, allowing us to rest in comfort after each day’s exertion.

The climb of the Stelvio was the ultimate highlight; an intense sporting challenge that I successfully conquered thanks to the excellent support and organisation. I would absolutely recommend this tour and Grand Cols Cycling Tours to anyone who loves a well-organised, boundary-pushing cycling experience!

STAGE 1: PAYS BASQUE – BASQUE COUNTRY

Salut les amis!

STAGE 3 & 4: GRAND COLS OF THE TOUR THE FRANCE

From stage 2 we enter the Pyrenees. The first known climb is the Col de Marie-Blanque (1,037 metres). From Escot we climb on an increasingly steep road through a dense forest. After the descent we ride to Laruns where Col d’Aubisque (1,709 metres) starts.

STAGE 5, 6 & 7: THE PYRENEES, THE GREEN MOUNTAINS

In stages 4 and 5, the cols continue to follow each other in rapid succession. We ride through a fantastic green landscape, with thousands of trees, and pass sleepy villages. Along the way, we climb Col de Menté (1,344 metres), Portet d’Aspet (1,069 metres), with the monument for the unfortunate Fabio Casatelli, Col de la Core (1,394 metres), Col de Port (1,257 metres) and the majestic Port de Pailhères (1,998 metres), from the authentic spa town of Ax-les-Thermes. After the fantastic descent of this col, we head for Quilan, where the final stage starts. From there, we cycle through the beautiful Gorge de la Pierre Lys. After a final serious col and a few relatively easy kilometres, we dive into the Mediterranean Sea in Argelès-Sur-Mer!

CUSTOM GROUP CYCLING TOUR IN THE ALPS WITH START AND FINISH IN THE AUSTRIAN BLUDENZ

Servus! Do you want to go on a custom group cycling tour in the Alps but can’t decide which country to choose? With the 4-Länder Giro, you don’t have to choose! We cycle through four Alpine countries in a single tour! This stage tour starts and finishes in Bludenz, Austria, and continues through Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Over 7 stages, through stunning mountain landscapes, we conquer the iconic Italian trilogy and many other phenomenal cols. We ride through different regions, each with its own authentic culture, pass countless beautiful lakes, and stay in charming mountain towns. This is a tour for true climbers! After the 4 Länder Giro, you can tick off the following Grand Cols: Bielerhöhe, Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße, Passo della Spluga, Passo dello Stelvio, Passo di Gavia, Passo del Mortirolo and Bernina Pass. In most stages, you can choose between a black or an easier red route. If you choose the black route for every stage, you’ll cover a total of 750 kilometres and climb 17,500 metres of altitude gain. Prefer the less demanding red routes? Then you’ll cycle 725 kilometres with 15,500 metres of altitude gain.

You can book this tour for your cycling group (from 8 people) or use it as inspiration for your own custom group arrangement.

STAGE 1 & 2: VORARLBERG AND TIROL

We start and finish in the Austrian mountain town of Bludenz, in the Vorarlberg region. Bludenz lies in the northern Alps and is easily accessible by train. In stage one, we immediately tackle the Grand Col Bielerhöhe via the stunning Silvretta Hochalpenstraße. After a demanding finale, we pass the Silvretta-Stausee, an imposing reservoir, at the summit. From there, we descend into Tirol, where the short but steep Pillerhöhe and the majestic Kaunertaler Gletscherstrasse await us in stage two. This last climb, up to 2,743 metres, is one of the most beautiful and challenging Grand Cols in Europe. Muß mit! We ride through a breathtaking nature reserve to the ski area at the foot of the glacier. Austria may not offer much memorable cycling history, but the sheer beauty of its cols more than makes up for it. Austria will enchant you, that’s a promise!

‘In the 4 Ländergiro you don’t have to choose;
we cross four Alpine countries in one go!’

STAGE 3 & 4: THE ITALIAN TRILOGY WITH THE CIMA COPPI

Ciao tutti! After Austria, we enter Italy via the friendly Reschenpass. We ride through a stunning region where cycling history awaits at every hairpin bend! In stages three and four, we conquer the famous Italian trilogy: Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo! The Passo dello Stelvio (2,757 metres), with its 48 legendary tornanti, is the Cima Coppi of Italy and our 4 Ländergiro. The stunning, rugged Passo di Gavia is notorious for the brutal snow stage in the 1988 Giro. Van der Velde reached the summit first, yet Breukink claimed the stage win. The Passo del Mortirolo is one of the steepest cols in the cycling world. Don’t worry, we climb the less demanding western side. Dutch climbers Kruijswijk and Bouwman and Italian legend Pantani have been first over the summit here. Il Pirata earned a monument for his climb on the Mortirolo.

STAGE 4, 5 & 6: SWITZERLAND AND LIECHTENSTEIN

In stage five we ride from Italy over the road to the long and though Berninapass into Switzerland. At the summit we pass the famous Ospizio Bernina, now a hotel. On this stage we pass several large lakes and descend the winding Malojapass. After a stunning ride, our hotel awaits us back in Italy! In stage six we climb the Passo dello Spluga. This monster climb, with no fewer than 51 hairpin bends, is one of the absolute highlights of the 4 Ländergiro! At the top of this Grand Col we ride back into Switzerland. We descend to Thusis and finally tackle the famous Lenzerheidepass, finishing in Chur. On the final stage we cycle through Liechtenstein back into Austria, where the tough final climb, the Furkajoch, awaits. After the descent of this hidden gem, we finish where we started: in Bludenz.

Salut! Do you want to conquer the famous Vosges cols and ballons, made famous by the Tour de France, together with your cycling friends on a beautiful custom group cycling tour in the Vosges? Then book our group package in the Vosges for your group and experience an unforgettable stage tour starting and finishing in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, in Alsace! The French mid-mountain range of the Vosges is a fantastic alternative to the Alps, Dolomites, and Pyrenees. You’ll ride through forests and vineyards, past picturesque villages, and climb iconic cols such as: Grand Ballon, Petit Ballon, La Super Planche des Belles Filles, Platzerwasel and Ballon d’Alsace. You will cover 580 kilometres and conquer more than 12,750 metres elevation gain. Each day you can choose an easier red route. If you choose the red route each stage, you will cover 480 kilometres and climb 9,750 metres elevation gain. This gives you the opportunity to complete A Travers les Vosges relatively easily.

Over five stages, including a short warm-up stage, you can choose almost daily between a black route for a serious challenge and a red route for a lighter option. The black routes cover a total of 450 kilometres with 9,500 metres of altitude gain, while the red routes add up to 380 kilometres and 7,450 metres of altitude gain. This makes A Travers les Vosges not only a beautiful, accessible stage tour in its own right but also an ideal group cycling tour in the Vosges for road cyclists preparing for tougher cycling adventures later in the year.

STAGE 1 & 2: GRAND COLS AND BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES

In the morning, you travel to France, and by the afternoon, you start the first stage of A Travers les Vosges in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines! We start gently with a short warm-up stage through Alsace-Lorraine, including three smaller cols, putting you straight into holiday mode and ready for the tour. On stage two, we ride through picturesque vineyards and some of Europe’s most beautiful villages such as Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, definitely worth hopping off your bike to soak up the atmosphere! Then comes the more serious part: climbing Collet du Linge, once a WWI frontline where trenches are still visible. After descending towards Munster, we tackle Col du Petit Ballon, descend the other side, and finish in Munster. This village is not known for a peace treaty but for its namesake stinky cheese.

”In A Travers les Vosges, you’ll discover the beauty of the Vosges and experience a full-fledged mountain stage!”

STAGE 2 & 3: GREAT VOSGES-LAKES AND THE PLAN OF THE PRETTY GIRLS

Arrivée!

CUSTOM GROUP CYCLING TOUR IN THE SWISS ALPS WITH START AND FINISH IN MEIRINGEN

Grüetzi! Do you and your cycling friends want to explore the spectacular Grand Cols of Switzerland? Then our custom cycling tour in the Swiss Alps, the Tour de Suisse, is perfect for you! Cycle from Meiringen to Meiringen in seven stages. Experience the beauty and tranquility of Switzerland and climb some of Europe’s most beautiful Grand Cols. Of course Switzerland is the Alpine country par excellence, but to cyclists the Swiss cols are less known than those in France and Italy. Yet the Tour of Switzerland is an important race that is often called the ‘fourth Grand Tour’. Rightly so in our opinion because the Swiss cols are in no way inferior to those in neighboring countries in terms of challenge and beauty. We climb, among others: Grimselpass, Furkapass, Julierpass, Passo della Spluga, Sankt Gotthardpass, Susenpass and Grosse Scheidegg. Do you choose the black routes? Then you cycle 650 kilometres and conquer 15,000 metres elevation gain. The red routes count 600 kilometres and a 13,500 metres Elevation gain.

STAGE 1 & 2: SWISS CLASSIC COLS

We start in Meiringen, near Lake Brienz. Brienz is located in the north of the Alps and is easily accessible from western and northern Europe, also by train. After a warm up stage we find two of the most beautiful Grand Cols in Europe on the program in stage 2: the grim Grimselpass (2,164 metres) and the Furkapass (2,429 metres). These Swiss classics are must-rides for every mountain cyclist! The Grimselpass has an impressive finale with winding roads past massive barrages. The Furkapass is best known for the iconic 19th century Belvédère hotel. It is located in a hairpin bend, near the Rhône Glacier. You may also know this col from a chase scene from the James Bond film Goldfinger, from 1964.

‘The Grimselpass and Furkapass are among the most beautiful Grand Cols in Europe and are must-rides for every mountain cyclist.’

STAGE 3, 4 & 5: MORE ALPINE GIANTS AND A LITTLE GETAWAY TO ITALIA

In stage 3 and 4 we move from central Switzerland to the east of the country, towards the Italian border. Here we climb the 36 kilometer long Julierpass (2,284 metres), named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar. We descend the Julier Pass and Malojapass and enter Italy; un doppio per favore! The next highlight on our route, in stage 5, is the breathtaking Passo della Spluga (2,114 metres), or Splügenpass in German. This border pass with 51 tornanti (three more than the Stelvio!) takes us along the beautiful Lago di Montespluga, back to Switzerland. In the 2021 Giro d’Italia, this Grand Col formed the setting for the 20th stage, which was won by Damiano Caruso.

STAGE 6 & 7: BACK IN TIME

In the last part of the Tour de Suisse the cols remain beautiful! As we climb the Sankt Gotthardpass (2,107 metres) in stage 6, it seems like we are going back in time; the winding road is partly paved with authentic stones and due to the Gotthard tunnel there is very little traffic on the road. Can we make this Grand Col even more beautiful? Yes we can! By mentioning its Italian name: Passo del San Gottardo! In the last stage we climb the Sustenpass (2,224 metres). We seem to be repeating ourselves when we say that this is a beautiful col, but it has to be said! After the descent we arrive back in Meiringen, where one more surprising col awaits us; the Grosse Scheidegg (1,962 metres)!

STAGE 1, 2 & 3: FROM ANNECY TO LE BOURG-D’OISANS

We start in Annecy, the cozy capital of the Haute Savoie department. On day one we complete a warm-up stage around Lac d’Annecy. In stage 2 and 3 we ride to the famous cycling village of Le Bourg-d’Oisans. Along the way we climb four challenging cols, including: Cret de Chatillon (1.668 meter), Col de la Madeleine (1,993 metres) and Col du Glandon (1,924 metres). The Madeleine is a long, heavy col where the cows are in charge. In the 2002 Tour de France, Michael Boogerd was the first to reach the top on his way to victory at La Plagne. Cycling history for the Dutch! Don’t underestimate Col du Glandon either; the finale is steep! The descent to Lac du Verney is beautiful. Please don’t try to imitate Tom Pidcock (Tour de France 2022)!

‘Enjoy breathtaking landscapes where Tour history was written.’

STAGE 4 & 5: 21 VIRAGES AND ITALIA

In stage 4 we climb the famous ‘Dutch mountain’ from Le Bourg-d’Oisans; Alpe d’Huez! The countless cycling stories that have been written on this Grand Col make the Alp a climb that every cyclist must check off, including you! Unfortunately, we have been waiting for many years for a successor to the many Dutch winners (Zoetemelk 2 times, Kuiper, Winnen 2 times, Rooks and Theunisse) on Alpe d’Huez. We continue our way with Col du Lautaret (2,057 metres) and Col du Galibier (2,648 metres). Then we pay Italy a little visit in stage 5 and climb the beautiful Col du Mont-Cenis (2,083 metres). This lesser-known climb, along the Lac du Mont-Cenis, is one of the absolute highlights of Across the Alps North!

STAGE 6 & 7: HIGH ALPINE COLS

In stage 6 we reach the next highlight, the so-called roof of Across the Alps North; the majestic Col de l’Iseran. With an altitude of 2,770 metres, this is one of Europe’s highest cols. The beautiful climb and the gentle descent take almost 80 kilometers! Egan Bernal was the first to reach the top in 2019 Tour stage that was unexpectedly canceled during the race due to mudslides. That’s how he won the Tour and not Kruijswijk (or Thomas). Via Bourg-Saint-Maurice we set course for Annecy. Along the way, in stage 7, we conquer Col de Aravis (1,487 metres) – a well-known intermediate pass that has been in La Grande Boucle 40 times – and Col de la Croix Fry (1,477 metres). When we see Lac d’Annecy sparkling in the sun, we have almost completed our ordeal!

STAGE 1, 2 & 3: DISCOVER AN UNKNOWN PART OF THE FRENCH ALPS

We start in the nice mountain town of Barcelonnette with a simple warm up stage in which we climb Col de la Cayolle. The tour starts in stage 2 through a lesser known, but beautiful part of the French Alps. We cross Lac de Serre Ponçon and cycle around the Parc National des Écrins, towards Le-Bourg-d’Oisans. Along the way we climb Col de la Moissière and, in stage 3 Col d’Ornon. We arrive in a well-known cycling area and finish with the climb of the beautiful Col du Glandon (1,924 metres). This is the first col of la Marmotte and the Glandon is also no stranger to the Tour de France. In the 2022 Tour, Tom Pidcock won on Alpe d’Huez after an unprecedented descent of the side of the Glandon that we climb.

‘This tour is for trained cyclists who climb easily.’

STAGE 4 & 5: ON THE TRAIL OF LA MARMOTTE

In stage 4 we climb Lacets de Montvernier and then continue our way over the route of la Marmotte with Col du Télégraphe and Col du Galibier (2,642 metres); these Grand Cols devide more than 35 kilometers and 2,000 metres elevation gain among themselves! Col du Galibier needs no introduction. It is one of the highest cols in France and has been included in the Tour countless times. With Col d’Izoard (2,361 metres), we have another absolute Tour classic on the program in stage 5. This Grand Col is known for its mighty rubble slopes and the remarkable monument on the top. Then we ride into Italy via the mystical Col Agnel (2,744 metres). Benvenuto! You immediately notice that the roads are a lot quieter here and life is lived in a lower gear.

STAGE 6 & 7: ITALIA AND CIME DE LA BONETTE

In Italy we climb the fantastic Colle di Sampeyre (2,274 metres) and Colle della Fauniera (2,481 metres) in stage 6. In our opinion, the Fauniera is the most beautiful col in Europe, and is worth every drop of sweat! In this remote part of Italy you will more than once feel like you have reached the end of the world. In stage 7 we enter France via the stunning Colle di Lombarda. A last tough challenge awaits us; Cime de la Bonette (2,802 metres), the highest asphalted road in Europe (according to the French)! The climb is long and tough, especially the last loop. While you enjoy the majestic view at the top, you slowly realize that you have achieved a very special achievement! Satisfied, you descend to Barcelonnette, where we conclude Across the Alps South. Arrivée!

STAGE 1, 2 & 3: START OF THE ÖTZTALER RADMARATHON AND SELLARONDA

Stage 1 of the Giro delle Dolomiti starts in Oetz, Austria, in the Ötztal. We’ll jump right in with the first two cols of the famous Ötztaler Radmarathon: Kühtai Sattel (2,017 meters) and the long Brenner Pass (1,370 meters). We finish after the descent in Sterzing, Italy. In stage 2 we enter the Dolomites via the difficult Passo delle Erbe (1,991 meters). From Corvara we climb the first Grand Col of the great Sella Ronda: the breathtaking Passo Gardena (2,121 meters). In stage 3 we continue our way on the Sella Ronda with Passo di Sella (2,244 meters) and Passo Pordoi (2,239 meters). In this area, known from the Maratona dles Dolomites, few flat meters are to be found; you climb or you descend. Finally we climb the Passo di Falzarego (2,109 meters) and finish in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

‘Perfectly maintained roads run through the beautiful, rugged landscape of the Dolomites.’

STAGE 4 & 5: BEAUTIFUL, STEEP CLIMBS

In stage 4 we ride from Cortina d’Ampezzo towards the northeast. We quickly gain altitude on the short, ultra-steep climb Tre Cime di Lavaredo, to the beautifully situated Rifugio Auronzo (2,357 meters). Great champions won here in the Giro: Gimondi, Merckx and Nibali. The view at the top is wonderful! The fantastic Passo di Giau (2,236 meters) and the equally beautiful Passo di Fedaia (2,057 meters), which we climb in stage 5, also have very steep finales. Perhaps that is why Hindly waited until the last kilometers pf this climb to make his decisive attack in the Giro d’Italia 2022. We complete stage 5 with two beautiful, less difficult climbs, including the Passo di San Pellegrino (1,918 meters) before we finish in the area of Cavalese.

STAGE 6 & 7: DIE WEINSTRASS AND MAGNIFICENT MERANO

In stage 6 we ride west and leave the rugged Dolomites. Don’t worry, there are still a few beautiful Grand Cols waiting for us! The landscape changes; we ride through the beautiful wine region of South Tyrol, climb the Mendel Pass (1,363 meters) and head for the romantic mountain town of Merano, where empress Sissi often stayed. In the final stage we return to the route of the Ötztaler Radmarathon. We ride back to Austria via the Timmelsjoch (2,474 meters), or Passo del Rombo in Italian. This long, tough final climb of the Ötztaler Radmarathon is a worthy way to end our adventure, both in terms of challenge and landschape; there are few cols that are so heavy and so beautiful! After descending the Timmelsjoch we arrive in the winter sports village of Sölden. What remains is the descent through the Ötztal, back to Oetz, where we conclude our Giro.
